Prep
We provide an exceptional quality of education for every one of the pupils at Holland House. We wish the children to be happy, thoughtful, confident and responsible. The ethos of the school is purposeful and supportive. The moral values of courtesy, consideration and care are expected to be the norm and our aim is to provide an environment in which pupils can flourish.
The Prep School is for pupils aged 7-11 years. The transition into the Prep School for pupils transferring from Year 2 to Year 3 is smooth and natural. There are sometimes a few additional places available in Year 3 or Year 4 for external candidates and the children that join at this stage soon become fully involved in school life and settled into routines.
Prep pupils are encouraged to do their very best whilst learning to become responsible and caring members of the school community. They are encouraged to become inquisitive and independent learners and to make the most of every opportunity.
The Prep classrooms are housed on the first floor of the building which also contains a purpose-built Art Room and Computing Room. The Library and School Hall are located on the ground floor.
There is one Prep form per year group with an optimum of 22 children per class, each with a form teacher. The classes also benefit from a teaching assistant who is dedicated to the Prep School. Lessons in PE, Games, Dance, Drama, Music and Computing are taught by specialist teachers, with form teachers assuming responsibility for the pastoral care of their pupils.
Children benefit from a broad curriculum, working at a level well above national norms in core subjects. They achieve considerable success in senior school entrance exams for both the maintained and independent sectors and also enjoy opportunities in music, drama, art and sport.
Pupils leave the school well-prepared to meet the challenges of secondary education.
