Ducklings in Reception!
Reception have had the most exciting 2 weeks as we welcomed 5 ‘living eggs’ into our classroom! The farmer delivered them on Monday and gave Miss Parker and Miss Morgan strict instructions on how to set up the incubator. The children watched and waited with bated breath as, by Wednesday, we could hear cracking! Our first little duckling was born at 7am on Wednesday morning and by home time, another 3 had emerged. Finally, the last duckling appeared on Friday morning and the family were complete! Once hatched, each duckling had to spend 2 hours in the incubator to fluff up, and then we moved them to the cage, where they could have a drink and some food.
The children had great fun thinking of names for the ducklings, and we had a vote to decide the favourites. We decided on Mango, CocaCola, Rainbow, Splashy and Sparkles! As it was quite tricky to determine the gender of the ducks, the children did a super job thinking of unisex names to give the ducklings. We have thoroughly enjoyed watching the ducks grow, stroking and hugging them, looking after them and even watching them have a swim in their tray! This week we will say goodbye, and they will be returned to the farm, where they will be free to run around and grow old with their friends!
